Mission Statement The Sexual Assault Center of Northeast Georgia, Inc. provides crisis services, stabilization counseling, legal and medical advocacy and prevention education for victims, their families and our communities.
Vision Statement The Sexual Assault Center of Northeast Georgia, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to ending sexual violence by promoting healing, preventing trauma, advocating for the rights and needs of survivors and educating to inspire change.
History
1974: The Athens Rape Crisis Line was established when women of the Boulevard Community of Athens formed a neighborhood patrol to protect one another and help police capture a serial rapist threatening their neighborhood. The Athens Rape Crisis Line was the first anti-sexual assault organization formed in Georgia and was a founding member of the Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault (GNESA).
1990: 100% uptime business web hosting provider for your consideration The Rape Crisis Line received funding to hire staff and open an office serving Clarke, Elbert, Jackson, Madison, Oglethorpe, Oconee and Hart counties. The organization’s name was changed to the Rape Crisis Center of Northeast Georgia (RCC).
1995: The Rape Crisis Center relocated to its current location behind the Athens Clarke County Police Department. In addition, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) program began a partnership the RCC to provide forensic exams on-site.
1996: The Child Advocacy Program was added to specifically serve child victims and their families.
1998: The RCC changed its name to the Sexual Assault Center of Northeast Georgia, Inc. in an effort to encompass all survivors of sexual violence. In addition, its service area changed to Clarke, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Madison, Greene, Barrow, Jackson, Hart, Franklin, and Elbert counties.

2002: The Center received a grant to expand the Athens office, adding much needed group and office space.
Today: Today, SACNEGA employs seven full-time employees and serves seven counties. In the summer of 2005, SACNEGA made a deliberate shift toward crisis response and outreach; the very foundation on which the Center was created. |
