David Kurtz, Ph.D., President

David is a long standing member of the Athens community and a retired professor from the University of Georgia– School of Social Work. He has been on the Board of Directors for 4 years and currently serves as its President. He is also a psychotherapist at the Samaritan Counseling Center of Athens.

Daniel has been a board member since 2004. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Speech Communication. Currently he does historic preservation in Clarke County. His other non-profit experience includes working with the youth of First Presbyterian Church of Athens and last summer’s Darius Goes West project for the Ossabow Island Foundation.

Charlie Squires, Treasurer

Charlie is the Director of Executive Programs at the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. He joined the Terry College of Business in 2000 following seven years in development at Duke University. Prior to his involvement in the academic community Charlie spent eleven years in the corporate world at Grumman Corporation and Equitable Life Insurance. Charlie holds a bachelors degree in business from Duke University and an MBA from the Terry College of Business. Charlie also serves on the board of the Titan Foundation that raises money to support public education in Oconee County.

Melissa Finerty, Secretary

Melissa is married with two children, previously worked in the medical field as an ultrasonographer and is currently, a stay at home mom. She is an active community member who is involved in PTO Partners in Education and Athens- Oconee Junior Woman’s Club.

Mike Healy, Ed.D.

Mike works at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education in the Sales and Marketing Department. Mike focuses on marketing research and planning. He also facilitates a class on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at the Athens Mind and Body Institute.

Nathan Horne

Nathan is a student at the University of Georgia in interdisciplinary studies. His goal is to graduate with a focus on social justice.
