Volunteer Opportunities

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,

committed citizens can change the world.

Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

~Margaret Mead

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Sexual Assault Center. We invite you to take part in any of our programs and want to let you know that each of these opportunities is a very rewarding experience. The Center cannot consistently offer these critical services without the commitment of dedicated volunteers. We deeply appreciate our volunteers and offer a great deal of support for them.  Opportunities are open to  men and women age 18+.  All volunteers must complete our 30-hour intensive training course and pass a criminal background check before volunteering.

Our main need for volunteers is in responding to our 24 hour Hotline.  As a hotline volunteer, you will provide emotional support to survivors of sexual assault and their significant others, friends and family members who may call the line. You will also be trained to accompany sexual assault survivors during the law enforcement interview and the rape exam.

In addition to the hotline, you will have the opportunity to work with staff members as they present sexual assault prevention programs in the community.  Program topics encompass issues surrounding sexual assault, including self-protection, dating violence, and sexual harassment.  Volunteers represent the agency at local health fairs, festivals, and in classrooms in an effort to prevent sexual assault through education.

If you are interested please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, April Ridgeway at 706.546.1133 or aridgeway@sacnega.org.
